This is a fabulous 230 page cookbook, with close to 200 recipes, plus 16 coloured plates displaying nearly 50 dishes. In addition, the cookbook gives the readers intensive knowledge about Indian food, the proper utilization of spices, herbs and condiments, their medicinal purposes and simple home remedies. This is a complete guide to Indian cooking, covering from the simplest meals to fanciest dishes prepared fo all occasions. All the ingredients used in the recipes are available in most of North American grocery stores.

The book evolved over 26 years of teaching, demonstrating and writing recipes from the Northwest Punjab region. There are 13 categories (various types of Masala Mix, Appetizers, Beverages, Breads, Vegetables, Beans, Rice, Meat, Poultry, Fish, Eggs, Accompaniments, Sweets) and many helpful hints.Learn to cook, freeze, and microwave to suit today’s lifestyle. The recipes have been made as simplistic as possible but they remain “yummy” and toally authentic.

This book has received tremendous response from local newspapers (the News Leader and the Citizen from Duncan, B.C., Canada, Harbour City from Nanaimo, B.C., and several times in the Times Colonist from Victoria, B.C.). In fact, the food critic Eric Akis selected Authentic Indian Cooking from Madhuri’s Kitchen as one of the four best books in the December, 1999 edition of the Times Colonist, and it made the front page of the Life section. All these newspapers have given full page book reviews.

This book also received tremendous response in Appeal magazine, B.C. Bookworld, Teachers of Home Economics Specialist Association and others. It has also been seen on local TV channels and all over Vancouver Island, B.C.

The author, Madhuri Anand, has appeared on television’s “Kitchen Culture” show several times as well as on the NOW channel in the greater Vancouver area, B.C.
